116 300SD Broken Oil Filter Housing Stud

One of the oil filter housing studs broke when trying to remove the nut to change the filter. Can this bolt be replaced or, must the entire oil filter housing be replaced? In either event, how do I do this?

Best to replace the housing

Unless you have special tools and equipment it is near impossible to remove this broken stud without damaging the aluminum housing. Best to just replace the housing. I have a couple of these used. CLICK HERE.

Wrong Oil Filter Housing?

The oil filter housing you sent for my 1980 300SD doesn't have the connection for the turbo. As the 300SD only came with a turbodiesel, I assumed by the product description, and your product recommendation, that it would work as sent. Since the product description for the oil filter housing indicated it was for the 300SD, I assume there's a way to make it work. That plate appears to be removeable. So, do I need to exchange the plate with the turbo connection or do I need a different oil filter housing? If I simply need to exchange the plate with the turbo connection, do I need a gasket? Your assistance helping me get this done ASAP will be very much appreciated. This is my daily driver and these "unknowns" are really discouraging.

Housings are the same

The housings are the same. The side mount pressure plates vary depending on the model installed. You will need to remove your plate and install it on the other housing. Since you are pressed for time you can use an existing gasket if not torn - clean it and use THIN layer of gasket sealant or you can make a gasket from standard thin gasket material - available at all auto parts stores.
