This is a 3-part series combined into one 30-minute video. If you can understand how the transmission works, you will be better able to diagnose your shifting problems. Kent will explain the 5 key elements in the transmission that control the shift sequence. Then we will show you the five actuators that move the elements, and finally, he will demonstrate, with a cutaway transmission, how the actuators are controlled. There is no other video series anywhere in the World like this that can help you truly understand how these automatic transmissions work.

Now that these transmissions are 30 to 45 years old, we are seeing many shift-related problems, most of which are due to age and wear. Contrary to what you may read on the Mercedes forums, a large percentage of the problems owners are now experiencing cannot be easily repaired externally, or adjusted out as may have been successfully done in the past. The days of thinking you can fix your shift problems by adjusting the modulator may be over. On these 30 to 45-year-old transmissions, a more serious diagnosis may be required.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a diagnostic video only. No actual repair information will be covered. The internal workings of the valve body are not included in this video.
