Kent's Pristine 1981 300TD Turbo Diesel Wagon for Sale

Beautiful original white paint and black interior. No rust - never subjected to road salt - no accidents. Rebuilt Engine and much more!

I have been “around” this 300TD for 28 years, but I have only owned it for five. The car has a significant history for me and my family. It was purchased by a pilot friend of mine ( the same person who got me interested in Mercedes) in 1998 from the original owner and was in showroom condition. I acquired it from his family estate after he passed away in 2019. This may help you understand why I named it Piper. He always kept it “hangered” and pampered. It is an original paint, mint interior, and a prime example of the first year of the turbo diesel wagon. This could be the nicest unrestored example in the country. Note: the underside condition of this W123 will give you a clue as to just how special it really is. You won’t find a spec of rust anywhere!

The car currently shows 219,000 original miles with a working odometer. The previous owner performed the replacement of the engine around the 200,000-mile mark. Although the engine was running well, it had begun burning oil, which displeased the owner. He therefore decided to have it removed and overhauled. I supplied him with a rebuilt short block that included new liners, proper machining, and brand-new Mahle pistons and rings. He hired a local Mercedes and Porsche specialist to remove his engine and complete the overhaul. Even today, the engine starts immediately, has some of the best power I have experienced with an OM617 turbo engine, and has no evidence of engine oil leaks even when parked for days on dry concrete.

I personally performed the following work within the first year of ownership.

  • Complete new brake system overhaul - included new ATE calipers
  • Complete front-end rebuild, including new front springs and shocks
  • Rear hydraulic suspension overhaul - rebuilt pump and leveling valve, and installed accumulators
  • New upgraded climate control valve
  • Rebuilt fuel injectors
  • Rebuilt lift pump
  • New hood pad
  • New H4 headlights
  • New headlight surrounds
  • Many new misc parts like wipers, led dash bulbs, some new wood and much more. kentscars

Almost everything on the car works as it should. The only things I know of that don't are the air-conditioning and the tack. The A/C was not recharged when the engine was replaced. A different rebuilt long block with new liners and pistons was installed. All the accessories are from the original engine, including the Delco AC pump, which is worn out ( so the belt was not installed) All the A/C lines are attached, and no parts are missing.  We do not need AC up here in the Northwest, so I felt no need to fix it. Many who MUST have A/C are upgrading to the Klimakit conversion as it is more efficient and easier to service.  I have heard some glowing reports on this from my customers.

It even has the rare factory roof bars in like new condition.

Let's take a closer look at the exterior. You can see the deep shine. Look at all the chrome and aluminum trim. They are like new with no fading. Even under the fender wells, you will never see another W123 wagon like this that is a driver!

The body has never had any accident damage or repaint, and the paint, trim, and exterior accessories are almost perfect. There are no door dings to speak of, and the only flaw is a very, very small dent in the lip of the left rear fender.

The front suspension has been totally rebuilt. All the brakes are new. ( new ATE calipers not just rebuilts ). New Bilstein shocks. The wheels have been repainted and come with Michelin tires with about 90 percent tread.

The interior and the interior trim are a 9.75. When do you see wood this good?  Not cracks in the dash. Look at the felt seals around the door openings and the plastic trim work around the upper part of the doors!

Just look at the condition of the headliner. This will always tell you how well the car has been treated!

And the engine is a real sight for diesel enthusiasts and a real sound to behold. It starts quickly, runs smoothly, and produces a ton of power. The transmission shifts exceptionally well. Many new parts have been replaced in and around the engine compartment to make the car a very reliable daily driver. I even installed an upgraded climate control valve for the cabin heating system.

This is a very special milestone Mercedes Benz. It was the very first (1981) W123 to receive the turbo diesel engine and the condition makes it super rare indeed!
