1975 300D Fuel Reserve Light Not Working

My fuel reserve light did not come on with 1 gallon of fuel remaining in the tank. Is this a DIY job? Thanks.

It is probably a bad sending unit in the tank. Try cleaning the contacts first at the sending unit to see if that makes any difference.

My 1984 300D has same problem. Can the connector be pulled of the sending unit, located under the first aid kit, and then can I electrically jump 2 of the contacts to try to get the light to come on? Light coming on would indicate bad sending unit. Light not coming on would indicate wiring. Is this correct and if so which 2 contacts do I jump with a wire? Could not determine this info on a wiring schematic.
